Waste Management Driver – Permanent
Salary Grade 4 £28,598 - £31,022 per annum. Full Time, 37 hours per week. Working week: Monday to Friday. Work will be required on Bank Holidays except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Start time: 6:30am. Finish time: 2:30pm.
Job Purpose
To safely and efficiently operate Waste Management vehicles, while supervising the refuse crew ensuring the timely collection and disposal of waste and recyclables in accordance with local regulations and service standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Safely drive and operate a range of vehicles, including HGVs, sweepers, and specialist fleet.
* Supervise and support your crew, ensuring clear communication and high standards.
* Ensure health and safety compliance at all times, including daily vehicle checks and reporting any incidents.
* Maintain professionalism when interacting with colleagues and the public.
* Complete waste collection and street cleaning tasks efficiently and to Council standards.
* Provide clear instructions and necessary information to the crew.
* Follow health and safety rules on roads, wear protective gear and report any accidents or near misses.
* Support Team Leaders on discipline, policies and complaint handling.
* Work as part of a team in a collective task‑and‑finish environment to complete assigned tasks.
* Conduct pre‑trip, ongoing and post‑trip vehicle checks and logbook entries, reporting problems and maintaining cleanliness.
* Operate the cab‑collections system.
* Ensure full compliance with all CPC training and legal requirements.
* Drive and take responsibility for heavy goods vehicles, sweepers, Hiab machinery, skip lorries and other specialist fleet as necessary.
* Account for the tipping of waste at the Transfer Station or other sites.
* Ensure all waste is collected and streets kept clean on your assigned route.
* Support street cleaning operations, ensuring safe collection, transport and disposal of waste.
* Be an active and supportive team member, contributing to collaborative working and overall efficiency.
Qualifications
* A valid HGV licence and Driver CPC qualification.
* Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
