Job overview

We are looking for a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist to lead our Family Therapy provision within the London Children and Young People's Gender Service (CYPGS).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

· develop and ensure the systematic provision of a highly specialist family and systemic psychotherapy service to the CYP Gender Service – London, including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.

· provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate. To contribute to service evaluation, audit, research and policy development.

· ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision and support of all other family and systemic psychotherapists, trainees and honorary therapists within the service area as appropriate

· work as an autonomous professional within AFT and UKCP guidelines and guided by principles and policies or procedures, taking full responsibility for interpreting policies within defined parameters.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training


Essential criteria

* Post-graduate qualification in relevant mental health/social welfare profession and demonstrable practice in this field
* Masters level qualification in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy or equivalent qualification, accredited by UKCP
* Additional training in a specialised area of systemic practice through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent),OR a combination of specialist short courses, OR an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice–based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma.
* Registered with the UKCP as Systemic Psychotherapist and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the UKCP.
* Accredited by AFT to supervise qualified Systemic and Family Psychotherapists


Experience/Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Evidence of having worked as a qualified systemic family psychotherapist under supervision in specialism relevant to CYP with Gender Diversity
* Experience of specialist systemic assessment, formulation, and intervention with individuals and families with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature relevant to the needs of CYP with Gender Diversity
* Experience of working with, and addressing issues of, diversity, including experience of working within a multicultural framework.
* Experience of supervising trainee family and systemic psychotherapists, having completed the relevant training
* Experience of providing teaching and training to family and systemic psychotherapists or other professional groups
* Experience of carrying out research, audit or service evaluation projects.
* Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised systemic and v
* Experience of proposing and implementing service development projects within own service area
* Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues and child protection.

Essential criteria

* Highly specialist skills in the selection and use of complex assessments, interpreting and integrating complex data that require analysis, interpretation and comparison, drawn from several sources, on which opinion may differ
* To communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues, overcoming barriers to communication including sensory, and emotional difficulties, cultural differences and hostility to or rejection of information.
* Advanced consultation skills to work with the multi -professional team or other professional groups
* Well-developed IT skills including entry and analysis of research data and for teaching purposes
* Ability to work effectively within a multi - disciplinary team, hold a substantial leadership role and contribute to effective team functioning.
* Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate.
* Ability to manage highly complex situations involving multiple difficulties, and competing/conflicting views about those difficulties; and to help create contexts that develop systemic engagement, and harness the strengths and abilities of those involved in order to work towards solutions
