LED in Anaesthetics and Critical Care – ST3+ Digital Fellow
Location: York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Fixed term of up to 12 months.

Overview
We invite applications for our inaugural Digital Critical Care Fellowship – a unique opportunity to integrate digital health technologies, data analytics and artificial intelligence into Intensive Care Medicine. The 12‑month fellowship combines advanced clinical training with hands‑on experience in digital transformation. It is suitable as a standalone fellowship or as an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE).
Responsibilities
* Lead projects to optimise workflows and improve outcomes using digital tools.
* Customise and enhance workflows within our Clinical Information System, MetaVision.
* Ensure digital solutions meet real‑world clinical needs through user‑centred design.
* Train in handling and analysing large datasets.
* Participate in AI‑driven research in anaesthesia and critical care.
* Carry out clinical duties at senior resident level in critical care at York Hospital, gaining Stage 2 and 3 ICM competencies.
Support & Development
* Structured mentorship for FRCA and FFICM exams.
* Opportunities to pursue further education, including digital health and transformation courses (subject to discussion).
* Support for applications to the national Digital Fellowship, with guidance on digital innovation and implementation.
* Exposure to digital transformation initiatives, with opportunities to gain experience in programming, data analysis and database manipulation (e.g. SQL, R, Python).

Person Specification – Experience and Knowledge
* High level of clinical experience and skill.
* Knowledge of good medical practice and GMC requirements.
* Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and Clinical Governance and audit.
* Experience teaching and supervising medical students and junior trainees.
* Experience undertaking audits and presenting findings.
* Written and spoken English sufficient for effective communication.
* Ability to communicate effectively with multi‑disciplinary team members, patients, relatives, GPs and other agencies.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and cope with stressful situations in a calm manner.
* Understanding of current NHS issues and efficient resource utilisation.
* Substantive NHS experience (12 months continuous).
* Experience setting up and/or developing clinical services and supervising SpRs/specialist trainees.
* Research experience and peer‑reviewed journal publications; experience designing and implementing audit programmes.
* Familiarity with service organisation and development.
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities locally, regionally or nationally.
Qualifications and Training
* MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
* Full GMC registration with license to practise.
* European ALS.
* Successful completion of Foundation Year 1 and Foundation Year 2 or equivalent.
* 24 months experience working in the specialty.
* Fit to practise safely and up to date.
* MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research.
* Higher teaching qualification.
