Controls & Commissioning Engineer – BECKHOFF BACKGOUND ESSENTIAL
(Programming PLC’s and Commissioning on Automated machinery)
Rate: £400-£450 Per Day
Location: Leicestershire
Hours: 0800 – 1700 (Flexible)
Contract Length: 3 Months Initially
Please note – All commissioning contracts may involve 1–2 weeks of travel abroad

The contractor
In this role, flexibility is essential. Most of your time will be spent in the office, focusing more on programming PLC code and performing testing and commissioning tasks before the equipment is sent to the client.
You should be confident in all aspects of PLC programming, with strong knowledge of sensors, pneumatics, robotics, and the principles of vision systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programming PLC code for specific machines.
2. Commissioning & developing special purpose automated machinery & systems
3. Developing machine processes to achieve performance requirements
4. Programming of various robots, including 6-axis, SCARA & Delta
5. Modifications and enhancements to existing systems
6. Provide customer training on delivered machines
7. To communicate effectively to customers, suppliers and team members
Key Tasks
8. To develop and commission machines and machine control systems
9. Commissioning of machine control systems and development of machine processes, machine performance testing, Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance testing
10. Responsible for machine functionality
11. Responsible for testing to ensure machine electrical systems & safety systems comply with all relevant European and international standards
12. Operator training on machines on site and at customer site
13. Provide customer support that will include visits to customer’s site throughout the UK and to assist with the installation, commissioning and troubleshooting when required.
14. Occasional oversees travel will be required
15. Working hours may vary depending on the requirement
Required Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate would have a very good understanding of mechanical systems and be able to demonstrate a good level of competency with machine control systems.
16. Experience in an Automation systems or Machinery environment.
17. PLC coding/troubleshooting experience with one or more of the following equipment would be an Beckhoff is a MUST
18. Experience of programming and integrating 6-axis, Scara or Delta robots into Automation systems would be an advantage.
19. Appropriate Electrical qualification combined with understanding of electrical systems, including commissioning and fault finding.
20. Understanding of Pneumatic circuits
21. Experience of interfacing to Injection Moulding Machines would be an advantage
22. Minimum 5 years’ experience relating to automation machinery
23. Must be self-motivating with a ‘can do’ attitude
24. Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal
25. Must be flexible and able to work away at short notice and work the hours required to complete the job
