About The College/Department
Our College of Science and Engineering includes the School of Science, Computing, Sport and Exercise Science, and Engineering. We are the STEM College, located in a city with a strong STEM heritage and close links with industry. Our Discipline of Computing and Mathematics is renowned for teaching, research, and innovation, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs including Computer Science, Cyber Security, and Data Sciences.
This is an exciting time for Computing and Mathematics at Derby, with recent investments like the £13m Institute of Technology and expansion of our Data Sciences Research Centre.
About The Role
We are hiring at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level in Computer Science, focusing on areas such as Internet of Things, Cyber Security, Networking, Data Security, Software Engineering, or Operating Systems. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and leadership, supporting our undergraduate and postgraduate programs and enhancing our national and international profile.

About You
As a Lecturer, you will aim to establish yourself as an outstanding teacher and researcher with an international reputation. You will support program development, mentoring students and colleagues, and engage in teaching, research, and outreach activities.
As a Senior Lecturer, you will demonstrate a successful track record and reputation in teaching and research, contributing significantly to the university’s profile.
Principal Accountabilities
Learning / Teaching
* Teach and facilitate learning across various modules and programs.
* Use research to inform teaching and extend activities externally.
* Ensure module and program design meet quality standards.
* Participate in assessment, provide feedback, and review delivery methods.
* Take on module or program leadership roles.
Research / Scholarship
* Engage in research and collaborate on projects.
* Publish in quality journals and present at conferences.
* Build relationships with professional and industrial organizations.
* Contribute to research funding bids.
Other
* Support and mentor students as a personal tutor.
* Provide pastoral care and support recruitment activities.
* Develop external links for outreach and income generation.
* Handle administrative duties related to admissions, exams, and attendance.
* Contribute to cross-university collaboration and adhere to policies.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Honours Degree in relevant subject or equivalent.
* Fellowship of the HEA or willingness to achieve it.
* PhD or equivalent, or in progress.
* Expertise in areas like IoT, Cyber Security, Networking, Data Security, Software Engineering, or Operating Systems.
Experience
* Experience in the relevant technical areas.
* Knowledge of higher education teaching and quality assurance.
* Research experience with publications or outputs contributing to REF or similar.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
* Digital capability and application of technology in teaching and research.
* Strong communication skills, teamwork, and ability to manage priorities.
* Understanding of the HE environment, employability, and internationalization.
