Band 4 Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor - CMHT

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Occupational Therapist Assistant to join our Community Mental Health Team. Successful applicant will join an already established Occupational Therapy Service, which aims to provide assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and aftercare to patients with a serious mental illness, whilst being committed to clinical excellence and the provision of high-quality evidence based interventions.

We are seeking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated Occupational Therapy Assistant who has experience in working with people from a range of diverse social and ethnic backgrounds. Applicants must demonstrate a genuine desire to work in mental health and commit to delivering the highest quality of patient centred care using national quality standards and evidence-based practice.


Main duties of the job

We require someone who is flexible and approachable. Effective communication skills, time management, record keeping and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to work well with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

The successful applicant will be required to drive to work related appointments and meet with service users to support their recovery and rehabilitation. You will be working in a variety of settings, including our Mental Health Hubs in the community, local community venues or in people's homes.

Job responsibilities

This post is offered for a period of 18 months. As a service we offer training and CPD opportunities across our Directorate teams. Our Trust also supports staff in applying for Level 3 Occupational Therapy Apprenticeship and to address GCSE/Functional skills that would support progression.

Person Specification


Experience

* Has interest, motivation and understanding regarding the needs of service users, families and carers
* Has undertaken formal study in Health and Social care studies or undertaken work within a supporting role, ie education, charity, NHS role
* Has prior work experience within a care setting and is able to describe an awareness of mental health issues as they present within settings
* Demonstrates an understanding of the impact of mental illness on wellbeing and the need for attention to diversity and social inclusion


Personal skills and qualities

* Has good communication skills and is able to articulate their thoughts in an organised and coherent way
* Demonstrates the ability to build rapport, and shows good awareness of self
* Demonstrates excellent communication and rapport building skills with awareness of strengths and development needs


Organisational skills

* Application shows evidence of organisation of information and details ability to work under supervision, with others, using initiative
* Application and question responses suggest an ability to prioritise work, methodical and organised work practices.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
