Wagon Fitters - All Mechanical Backgrounds Considered Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire Type: Permanent role Start Date: Mid to late July Shifts: 5 days per week - initially Sunday to Thursday, moving to a rotating shift pattern (every other Sunday). Hours: 9-hour shifts / 45 hours per week Pay: £18 per hour / £42,120 per annum The Role We're seeking mechanically skilled individuals to carry out wagon maintenance and examinations in Peterborough, March, and surrounding areas. This is a field-based role working in pairs, mainly covering the Midlands and Southeast, with a focus on the Peterborough region. What to Expect You'll start in Peterborough for competency training, then rotate with existing staff. A drug and alcohol test is required following a successful interview. You'll attend a paid PTS (Personal Track Safety) course in your first week. Once training is complete, you'll receive a company van and begin fieldwork with your assigned partner (this may take a few months). Key Responsibilities Carrying out both reactive and preventative maintenance Conducting wagon examinations (full training provided) Supporting with slinging and lifting tasks Working outdoors in all weather conditions Occasional lodging when required (once competent) What We're Looking For Solid mechanical background - all industries considered NVQ Level 3 in a mechanical discipline (preferred but not essential) Full UK driving licence Experience with wagons or rolling stock is beneficial but not essential Comfortable with travel - primary bases are Peterborough and March Willing to work outdoors and attend breakdowns off-site Open to occasional overnight stays What's in It for You? £18 per hour / £42,120 annual salary Expenses and paid lunches when working away Lodging benefits (meals included) Door-to-door travel paid when working off-site Company van and fuel card (post-competency) Full training in wagon maintenance and examination Interested?
