We are seeking a qualified and customer-focused Dispensing Optician to join our team at Yorkshire Eye Clinic. This role combines traditional dispensing duties with a proactive public engagement element. The successful candidate will not only support patients within the clinic but will also promote eye health awareness in the community and actively encourage members of the public to book in for regular eye examinations.
Key Responsibilities:Dispensing & Clinical Support (In-Practice):
* Provide expert advice on eyewear, lens types, and frame selection tailored to patients' prescriptions and lifestyle needs.
* Accurately interpret optical prescriptions and ensure precise measurements are taken for fitting.
* Assist with adjustments, repairs, and aftercare of spectacles.
* Support the optometrist and other team members with pre-testing and clinical procedures when necessary.
* Maintain high standards of clinical hygiene and compliance with GOC and NHS guidelines.
Public Engagement & Eye Health Awareness (Outreach):
* Represent the clinic in public spaces outside the store.
* Educate the public on the importance of regular eye tests, especially for children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
* Approach and engage members of the public confidently and professionally to discuss eye care services.
* Schedule and book eye test appointments on the spot using the clinic's booking system.
* Distribute promotional materials and help increase clinic visibility in the community.
Requirements:
* Fully qualified and registered Dispensing Optician (GOC registration essential).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Passion for community health and public engagement.
* Confident in speaking with diverse members of the public in an informative, non-pushy manner.
* Comfortable working both within the clinic and outdoors at events or promotional activities.
* Basic IT skills (for appointment booking and patient management systems).
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
* Previous experience in a similar outreach or promotional role.
* Familiarity with booking systems such as Optix / iClarity (or similar).
* First Aid or Safeguarding training is a bonus (training can be provided).
