Climate change is the defining challenge of our generation. National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is central to the UK’s energy system and has a vital role in enabling the transition to clean energy and net zero by 2050.
We are currently looking for Senior Project Managers to help deliver the infrastructure that will power a cleaner, more sustainable future.
We have roles in London, South Wales (Swansea area) and the Southeast (from Oxford to Kent). As part of the Infrastructure Delivery team, you’ll lead the delivery of our major infrastructure and customer connections portfolio —integrating across Major Projects to manage risk and achieve outcomes. Projects will include new substations and upgrades, cabling and overhead lines.
You’ll oversee projects end to end, ensuring safe, compliant delivery to time and quality standards, and continuously improving how we plan and execute work.
Reporting to the Project Director, you’ll lead, manage and grow a multidisciplinary team of Project Managers through the full project lifecycle—from funding and option selection to design, contract award, governance, procurement and construction planning.
These roles are critical to connecting new green generation and the customers who need it. If you’re an inclusive, customer‑focused leader who helps others thrive and is committed to net zero, we’d like to hear from you.
Projects are across London, South Wales and the Southeast, so you’ll need to be within commuting distance of one of these regions. The expectation is you will be based either in a site or project office, with travel required to sites throughout the region. This can be combined with home working on an ad hoc basis.
What You’ll Need
We’re looking for a Leader who is motivated and committed to getting their projects delivered safely, on time and to budget. Someone who can inspire and empower our people for great performance.
You will have a background in construction project management, have strong commercial acumen and experience leading cross‑functional teams in an operational environment with a good understanding of financial management and reporting at portfolio level.
You’ll be a self‑starter who is good at playing devil’s advocate and foreseeing potential problems. You may have experience outside of a client role as either contractor or customer.
Ideally, you will have a degree or qualification in project management, engineering, or equivalent experience. You’ll also have a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK.
What’s in it for you?
* Salary of £70,000 - £86,000 dependent on experience and capability
* Company car
* Annual Performance Based Bonus up to 30% of your base salary
* 28 days annual leave plus eight statutory days, and the option to buy additional or sell holiday days
* Generous contributory pension scheme – we will double‑match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%
* Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave – so long as it’s relevant to your role
* Access to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few
* Family care benefits including a back‑up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days)
* Access to numerous apps which support health, fitness and wellbeing

In most cases, National Grid is unable to offer sponsorship for employment under the UK points‑based immigration system. As such, applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship now or in the future under the UK points‑based immigration system. However, in exceptional circumstances where there is a clear and demonstrable need for specialist skills that cannot be sourced from the local labour market, National Grid may consider offering sponsorship.
