Job Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an outstanding Geography Teacher to join St Hugh’s as a Head of Geography. The successful candidate will be passionate about education and have the idea, drive, and enthusiasm to lead this department in the next phase of academic development at St Hugh’s.
St Hugh's is a highly regarded coeducational day and boarding school with 350 pupils. We are situated on a beautiful green campus of 40 acres in the South Oxfordshire countryside, only 25 minutes from Central Oxford. In June 2025, the Headmaster and Governors announced that St Hugh’s would be opening a Senior School in September 2026.
The post holder will report directly to the Deputy Head Academic. This is a part-time position (0.36 FTE), working across two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday). There will be an opportunity to increase hours as the Senior School launches, and the post may become full-time in due course. The ability to teach other subjects, including Business Studies to KS4, will be an advantage and support additional hours being offered.
St Hugh’s staff are an outstanding, hard-working, and collaborative team who aim to give all our children academic and pastoral excellence in a nurturing environment with wide-ranging facilities. Each child is, therefore, able to discover what they are good at, thrive, and gain confidence in themselves.
We offer excellent benefits, including a competitive salary on our own salary scale with scope for progression, an outstanding working environment in our beautiful estate with easy access to transport links, and being part of our vibrant and supportive community. We offer free car parking, free meals, a discount on School fees, and the use of our sporting and gym facilities.
To apply, please submit a supporting statement outlining the extent to which you meet our requirements as set out in the job description and person specification, and details of two referees, one of which should be a current or most recent employer. References may be taken up before interview. Online social media checks will be completed on shortlisted candidates prior to interview as part of KCSIE guidance.
Applications will be considered on receipt and should arrive no later than 10.00am on Thursday, 9th October 2025. Interviews will take place w/c 13th October 2025. We reserve the right to interview at any point during the recruitment process, so early applications are encouraged.
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and all appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (including a check against the Children’s Barred List), and other pre-employment screening, including a check on the Secretary of State list of prohibited staff.
