Rotational Radiology Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Radiology department at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire as a band 2 Radiology assistant.

The successful candidate will join the Radiology team to provide an excellent, friendly and organised experience for our patients rotating through radiology including plain film, Emergency department and Fluoroscopy as a Radiology Assistant.

The successful candidate will need to be experienced in or be willing to learn how to use Radiology imaging systems and have a good understanding of patient pathways and referral processes and good people skills.

The candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience in patient/customer contact.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.


Main duties of the job

The department provides a fast and responsive outpatient, Inpatient, Emergency Department and Fluoroscopy and Interventional radiology service.

Duties and responsibilities:

* Assisting the Imaging team in the provision of exemplary patient care.
* Contributing to the support and monitoring of patients.
* Identifying and reporting any significant changes that might affect the patient's health and well-being to the appropriate person.
* Admin support - Booking patients onto our system.

Job responsibilities

* To assist patients in preparation for, and whilst undergoing, routine and specialised radiographic examinations. Establish and maintain a good communication channel with patients to support patient confidence.
* To observe and care for patients whilst waiting for examinations and communicate any concerns to trained staff as appropriate.
* To check patient identification and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests.
* Assist Radiologists, sonographers, registrars and Nurses in performing these examinations, attending to patients welfare at all times.
* Support service delivery to co‑ordinate workflow and support facilities within specialised areas.
* Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times. Clean and perform routine operational maintenance on equipment as required, participating in the departmental Quality Assurance programme.
* To be familiar with, understand and apply the principles of Radiation Safety, both nationally and locally regulated or protocol led.
* The role includes supporting a 7‑day service, which will involve working on weekends and bank/public holidays, in line with service requirements.
* To facilitate communication between the department and all service users, patients, relatives, staff and external users, including any adherence to Trust policies, including participation in annual appraisal/review systems.
* Communicate with patients and professional colleagues in situations that may be traumatic due to pressures of work or where the patients condition may be a barrier to comprehension and compliance, e.g. Claustrophobia, learning difficulties or injury traumatised.
* To assist with the practical experience of newly inducted staff.
* Ensure in house stock movement, especially specialist room stocks, and linen handling according to infection control standards.
