Those huge small victories
We are the highest Ofsted-rated provider in the country for special education and care. Our teams are fulfilled by making even the smallest positive changes in our young people, so we celebrate the little things. For children with complex needs, the level of care and education we provide must go above and beyond. That’s what drives us at Witherslack Group. With our high staff-to-child ratio and in-house clinical teams, we’re proud to have a reputation for excellence and market-leading OFSTED ratings.
Get out what you put in
We are seeking an experienced External Reviewer to assess the quality and compliance of our children's homes and residential provisions within our schools. The role involves conducting reviews at regular intervals, with an expectation of five days of work per visit: two days onsite and up to three days for research and report writing. As an External Reviewer, you will support us in maintaining the highest standards of care by providing independent evaluations of our homes.
Key responsibilities include producing structured reports from each visit, offering advice and guidance for improvement, and ensuring our homes meet current quality standards and regulatory requirements. You will identify specific actions for improvement within each report and attend quarterly planning meetings to discuss review activities and emerging themes. The role also involves staying updated with compliance, industry regulations, sector legislation, and government guidance, as well as fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This position offers an opportunity to significantly impact the quality of care provided to vulnerable children and young people.
Bring your whole-self to work
At Witherslack Group, we celebrate everyone’s differences, which makes us the best at what we do. Here’s what we need from you:
Knowledge and experience of conducting regulatory work activities within social care.

Previous Social Care Ofsted Inspector experience.
Social work degree or an equivalent professional social work qualification (e.g., CQSW or DIPSW).
OR
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or a suitable equivalent.
OR
Level 5 professional qualification (or higher) in Health and Social Care.
Join the UK’s leading special education and care provider.
Our young people deserve the best possible future, and we feel the same about our teams. You deserve a career aligned with your purpose, in an environment that allows you to be yourself.
The Witherslack Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its young people. This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check (cost covered by us) and an online search. We are an equal opportunities employer welcoming applications from all sections of the community.
