We are seeking to appoint an innovative and dynamic Consultant in Stroke Medicine to be involved in the delivery and development of stroke and TIA services across Herefordshire.
Stroke and TIA services in Herefordshire and Worcestershire have changed significantly over the last 10 years, with centralisation of Hyper Acute and Acute stroke services in Worcestershire at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site in 2013 and the integration of hyper acute (6 bedded HASU), acute and rehabilitation stroke services at the Hereford Hospital site. These changes have resulted in improvements to stroke services across the Integrated Care System. Hereford Hospital has consistently achieved a SSNAP A or B rating.
The post will be key to delivering the ICs vision for stroke and TIA services across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The individual will work with senior colleagues and executives in the development of an integrated service model for stroke and TIA across the ICs.

Responsibilities
* Assist in the provision of the Stroke Service.
* Take responsibility for own actions and decisions within the empowerment limits agreed by the consultant team lead and Clinical Director.
* Contribute to the development of services and staff, participating in teaching of medical undergraduates and doctors in training.
* Assist with departmental audit, research, patient safety and quality agenda.
* Perform any other duties considered necessary for the efficient working of the service and mutually agreed to be relevant to the post as the pattern of service evolves.
* Cover for colleagues during normal periods of leave.
* Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
* Allocate the remainder of professional time flexibly to other clinical duties, administration, teaching, research and audit.
Qualifications
* MRCP or equivalent.
* Full GMC registration, and on the specialist register with proven skills and up-to-date experience in stroke medicine and GIM.
* Full GMC registration, and within 6 months of specialist registration from date of interview. With proven skills and up-to-date experience in Stroke Medicine and potentially GIM, or application via GMC CESR with the submission completed at time of interview in either case.
Experience
* Ability to effectively lead and develop the service.
* Experience in the management of a Stroke Medicine caseload, and appropriate subspecialty training.
* Willingness and ability to fulfil the key elements of the job description including the shift pattern required.
* Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels of staff.
Desirable
* Current ALS Certificate.
* Evidence of direct involvement in 2 specific medical audits in the last 18 months.
* Training and/or evidence in areas such as leadership, planning and change management.
Teaching
* Evidence of effective teaching of medical students, doctors in training and the multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to present effectively to an audience using a variety of methods.
