About Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital NHS Trust
Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital NHS Trust is a large teaching hospital, performing over 25,500 surgeries annually. Located on the northeast edge of London and on the borders of rural Essex, it offers a vibrant environment with diverse populations. Its strategic position provides easy access to London via the Elizabeth Line, with trains every 10 minutes, and the Essex countryside just a 20-minute drive away.
The Mayor’s London Plan 2021 highlights Romford as an Opportunity Area with potential for development, including new homes, jobs, and infrastructure. Our healthcare team is equally ambitious, seeking motivated and dynamic individuals ready to face future challenges.
We are a growing Trust and the first in London to be accredited as a surgical hub, meeting the highest standards in clinical and operational practice, and committed to providing faster access to common surgical procedures.
Main Duties of the Job
Our elective hub at King George Hospital performs planned surgeries with dedicated inpatient and critical care beds, operating year-round with minimal disruption. The department is equipped with two Da Vinci robots and a Mako robot for orthopaedics. Our Queen’s site, a neurosurgical center, mainly handles day-case elective surgeries and trauma cases. Our innovative projects have earned us several HSJ Awards nominations and wins.
We seek highly skilled Consultants in Anaesthesia to join our forward-thinking team, offering a supportive environment for skill and career development. Our Trust provides valuable experience for those aiming for future roles in Anaesthetics.
Working for Our Organisation
We are continuously improving: we were the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance in 2023/24, are no longer in special measures, and our Chief Executive, Matthew Trainer, was named top CEO by the Health Service Journal. Our staff, over 8,000 from 146 countries, reflect London's diversity, with many on apprenticeships and earning the London Living Wage.
Our main sites are King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford, with two busy emergency departments. Recent developments include new theatres at KGH and Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. We plan to introduce an electronic patient record system next year to improve accessibility and patient care across our hospitals.
