This 6 month post is a fellowship for anaesthetists with at least three years of anaesthetic training.
An additional tier of clinical fellows is recruited to manage the increase in acuity and out of hours work at the Royal London Hospital ( The out of hours is focused on supporting the increasing numbers and complexity of cases on labour ward the new mechanical thrombectomy service and the busy emergency theatre at RLH.
The post also offers the opportunity for a clinical fellow to obtain competencies in one of a number of surgical specialties undertaken at RLH (eg neuro, complex obstetrics, perioperative
medicine and high risk preassessment, regional anaesthesia, trauma anaesthesia major abdominal surgery) and to develop their CV b y undertak ing QI projects or research. In addition, each successful candidate will have a dedicated educational supervisor to support their career goals.

on labour ward and the increase in Mechanical Thrombectomy provision at RLH. The on calls will reflect this service need and be split between labour ward and the trauma emergency theatre

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Work in a busy and supportive department in anaesthesia at ST 4+ level.
The applicant will take place in a 1:8, 1:9, or 1:10 rota and will allow the site to have additional flexible
anaesthetic cover at night.
Nighttime cover would potentially include acting as an additional anaesthetist on labour ward providing cover for mechanical thrombectomy or covering the emergency theatres

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice medicine
2. MBBS or equivalent
3. 3 years of anaesthetic training
4. Completion of an approved core anaesthetics training programme
5. Primary FRCA / Equivalent
Desirable criteria
6. Minimum 2 years working in the NHS
Knowledge
Essential criteria
7. Experience in the peri-operative care of patients including pain management
8. Audit experience
Desirable criteria
9. Experience in management of high-risk surgical cases
Teaching & Training
Essential criteria
10. Involvement in teaching undergraduates, junior medical staff, nurses and allied health professionals
Desirable criteria
11. ATLS, ALS, APLS or PALS
12. Involvement in undergraduate education.
Research
Essential criteria
13. Understands research methodology
14. Actively encourages research with junior and other staff
15. Active participation in research
Desirable criteria
16. Published or submitted research to indexed journals
