Responsibilities :
1. Supports a learning environment that enhances Halifax Centre of Hope’s Mission, Vision and Values.
2. Work in accordance with COH policies, procedures and philosophy of practice.
3. Complete and maintain records, assessments, daily statistics and files, and ensure confidentiality is protected.
4. Commit to the COH projects and activities and participate in internal committees as needed.
5. Assist in program and service delivery to ensure that quality, effective and client-centered programs are delivered.
6. Provide a supportive environment and foster a therapeutic milieu that promotes empowerment.
7. Perform other work-related duties a required.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
10. Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources and effective use of budget.
11. May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash.
12. Minor responsibility for material resources (toys, proper use and safekeeping of some equipment).
Working Conditions:
13. Open Arms facility (5424, 5426, 5428 Uniacke street)
14. Occasional Community and Family Services office located at the Centre of Hope (2038 Gottingen Street)
15. Working with at risk and vulnerable populations
16. Flexibility in scheduling is required and will vary according to the needs of the program.
17. The hours of work will usually occur Monday to Friday with flexibility – some weekends and evening work may be required.
18. Required to carry a cell phone – on call.
19. The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to:
20. Physical attacks by others (e.g., violent/aggressive client acting out physically)
21. Exposure to infectious diseases
22. Moving and sharp objects
23. Emergency response situations (fire, bomb threat, etc.)
24. Other potentially dangerous situations
25. Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work may be required.
26. This is a part -time position based on 22 hours per week.
27. The hours of work usually occur Monday to Friday with flexibility expected in the actual shifts in order to accommodate the different programs.
28. Normal location of work is at The Salvation Army Halifax Centre of Hope, 2038 Gottingen Street and 5424, 5426, 5428 Uniacke Square, Halifax, NS.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
29. Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of one academic year in Social Services/Human Services diploma or other relevant field.
30. Non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI), Suicide Intervention (ASSIST), Standard First Aid and COH medication training and/or a commitment to secure those requirements within six months of being hired, Criminal Record Check, WHMIS.
31. Undergraduate Degree or Social Services/Human Services diploma or other relevant undergraduate degree will be considered as an asset.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
32. A minimum of two years of experience working with at-risk children and/or youth preferred.
33. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and using the Internet.
34. Experience working for a Walk-in Centre of a non-profit organization is an asset.
35. Driver’s License with clean abstract is an asset.

36. Demonstrated skill applicable to a client-directed approach and a social justice perspective.
37. Knowledge of mental health issues, substance abuse and crisis intervention.
38. Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
39. Demonstrated ability to build appropriate and healthy rapport with at-risk persons.
40. Knowledge of community resources available to support Open Arms Program and ability/skills to network.
41. Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
42. Ability to provide a clear Child abuse/Vulnerable Sector Registry check required.
Working Conditions: Full Time - 35 hours per week
