Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist with drive and enthusiasm to join our Surgical Pharmacy team as the Lead Specialist Pharmacist for Hepato‑Biliary‑Pancreatic (HPB) and Upper GI Surgery. The post holder will work closely with the Principal Pharmacist for Surgery and be embedded in the multidisciplinary team whilst providing comprehensive clinical pharmacy services and leading service development. We seek an experienced pharmacist with extensive clinical pharmacy knowledge, excellent communication skills and a passion for training and development. Further education, including leadership and prescribing qualifications if not already held, is supported. Successful applicants will be required to participate in late night, weekend and public holiday work. Main Duties
* Lead, provide and develop the clinical pharmacy service for HPB and Upper GI surgical patients within the surgical division.
* Ensure safe, cost‑effective and patient‑focused pharmaceutical care.
* Provide a framework for the safe, effective and economic use of medicines, utilising sound medicines management and clinical governance principles.
* Deputise for the Principal Pharmacist for the Surgical Division when required.
* Participate in ward rounds and contribute to the multidisciplinary team.
* Supervise and train pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other healthcare professionals working in the specialty.

Job Responsibilities
* Act as a subject‑matter expert on HPB and Upper GI surgical patients for the pharmacy department and the wider clinical workforce.
* Provide clinical pharmacy services throughout secondary and tertiary care, ensuring optimal pharmaceutical care and safe medication supply.
* Attend consultant‑led ward rounds and act as an independent non‑medical prescriber where appropriate.
* Communicate complex pharmaceutical information accurately to health professionals, patients and carers.
* Lead governance on medication issues, attend divisional governance meetings and manage risk assessments.
* Identify and implement clinical developments to meet service requirements and fund development.
Person Specification
Essential
* Master's degree in Pharmacy or equivalent and 1 year pre‑registration training.
* Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (Great Britain).
* Post‑graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent.
* Professional knowledge from a vocational master’s degree or equivalent.
* Advanced core therapeutic knowledge and clinical skills from a postgraduate clinical diploma or equivalent.
* High level of clinical knowledge, reasoning and judgement; experience managing complex problems.
* Understanding of national/local healthcare policy and clinical governance.
* Specialist clinical knowledge in HPB/Upper GI, CPD experience and ability to deliver postgraduate training.
* Experience in clinical audit or drug‑use review.
Desirable
* MSc in clinical pharmacy.
* Registered independent non‑medical prescriber.
* Experience of delivery of parenteral nutrition service.
* Experience in hospital pharmacy at management or directorate level.
* Experience of supervision or line‑managing others.
