We are seeking an experienced Band 7 Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join the Mental Health & Learning Disabilities Liaison Team based at St Mary’s Hospital, Isle of Wight. This is a long-term agency placement supporting the delivery of high-quality mental health care within an acute hospital setting.
You will be responsible for providing specialist assessment, clinical risk management, and short-term interventions for patients with mental health needs or learning disabilities who are admitted to general hospital wards. The role includes liaison with acute ward staff, community teams, and crisis services to ensure effective, patient-centred care. Key Responsibilities
Undertake comprehensive mental health and risk assessments for patients referred from across the hospital.
Provide clinical input on complex cases, including self-harm, psychosis, cognitive impairment, and learning disabilities.
Support hospital staff with care planning, discharge coordination, and behaviour management.
Deliver short-term mental health interventions and facilitate timely referrals to community services where appropriate.
Act as a clinical lead within the liaison team, offering guidance and supervision to junior staff.
Uphold statutory duties under the Mental Health Act (MHA), Mental Capacity Act (MCA), and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.Candidate Requirements
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).
Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience, including work in acute or liaison mental health settings.
Strong understanding of mental health legislation, safeguarding practices, and the needs of patients with learning disabilities.
Proven ability to work autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams.
