SEN Support Assistant (Full-Time, Fixed Term)

Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-Time, Fixed Term (initially until July 2027, with potential to extend)
A welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Accrington is seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate SEN Support Assistant to join our team from September 2026.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with a range of additional needs within a mainstream setting, helping them to access the curriculum, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.
The Role:
* Provide in-class support for students with Special Educational Needs (SEND) across Key Stages 3 and 4
* Work closely with teachers to adapt learning activities and resources
* Deliver targeted interventions on a 1:1 and small group basis
* Support students with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties
* Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and independence
* Liaise with the SENDCo, pastoral teams, and external professionals where appropriate
We are looking for someone who:
* Has experience working with children or young people with SEND (school-based or similar setting)
* Is patient, empathetic, and resilient
* Has strong communication and teamwork skills
* Can build positive relationships with students and staff
* Is proactive and able to use their initiative
* Is committed to inclusive education and removing barriers to learning
Desirable (but not essential):
* Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent)
* Experience in a secondary school setting
* Knowledge of strategies to support students with ASD, ADHD, or SEMH needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
