Job Title: Chef Manager
Reports To: Trust Catering Manager / School Business Manager / Head of School
Location: Gravesend DA11
Salary Grade: £27,852 FTE within the Kent Scheme pay scale KSE, pro-rata to £19,180.48 based on 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am - 2pm, 38 weeks per year
Purpose of the Role
As a Chef Manager, you will lead a school kitchen team to deliver high-quality, nutritious meals to pupils and staff. This hands-on role combines kitchen management, food preparation, and front-of-house service, requiring a passion for cooking and excellent organisational skills. You'll oversee food planning, ordering, stock control, and compliance with food safety standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesKitchen & Service Management
* Manage the daily operations of the school kitchen, including food prep and service.
* Cook fresh, appealing meals aligned with nutritional guidelines and set menus.
* Support breakfast and after-school food service needs.
* Oversee food ordering, portion control, and weekly stock takes to manage costs.
* Monitor meal uptake and engage with pupils and staff to promote school meals.
Team Leadership
* Lead, train, and support kitchen staff.
* Ensure all team members are compliant with food safety procedures and receive relevant training.
Health & Safety Compliance
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness and kitchen safety.
* Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, HACCP, COSHH, and risk assessments.
* Liaise with maintenance teams to ensure kitchen equipment is in working order.
Wider Responsibilities
* Attend relevant meetings and training.
* Uphold school policies, especially around safeguarding, health & safety, and equal opportunities.
* Participate in performance reviews and personal development planning.
Data Protection
* Handle school data securely and confidentially in line with UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
* Report data breaches or subject access requests promptly.
* Support compliance under guidance from the Data Protection Officer (DPO).
