An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced Sessional Dentists to join our team at the newly established Urgent Dental Access Centre in Carlisle. This is a new service providing emergency dental care to the patients of Cumbria. It is a friendly and professional working atmosphere and an excellent rate of pay.
* Availability to cover shifts in the week to cover sickness and annual leave on a sessional basis.
* We offer flexible working patterns with 2‑session and 3‑session days available.
* Location: Conveniently located near junction 42 of the M6 at Cumbria Health Headquarters, 4 Wavell Drive, Rosehill Industrial Estate, Carlisle.
Applicants must have availability across Monday to Thursday, as sessions may be scheduled on any of these days.
About the Role
The practice focuses on providing urgent dental care and dental stabilisation services, operating entirely within the NHS.

* At least 4 years of postgraduate experience is essential.

Main Duties of the Job
The sessional dentist will discharge responsibilities and undertake duties necessary for the proper fulfilment of the service contract(s) entered into by the clinical directorate. The duties include:
* The provision of high‑quality general dental care to patients resident in the locality served by the clinic under NHS regulations.
* The examination and appropriate treatment, to a high standard, of people eligible for treatment within the associate dentist clinics. Patients include adults and children who do not currently have a GDP.
* The appropriate recall, transfer or discharge of patients at the end of their agreed course of treatment according to NICE guidelines.
* Supervision of dental therapists and/or dental hygienists in accordance with the Ancillary Dental Workers Regulations (1968) and subsequent amendments.
* Participation in activities relating to the promotion of quality of service, including a system of clinical governance, which involves clinical audit and peer review.
* Participation in the corporate functioning of the UDAC, including business planning, resource management, compliance with agreed service specifications or contracts, performance monitoring, and assuming responsibility for the performance of the directorate.
* Oversight of the day‑to‑day organisation and management of the dental premises, ensuring that workload is scheduled and completed on time, maintaining proper standards including infection control procedures, efficient use of resources, confidentiality of personal health data, high standards of conduct, and application of operational procedures.
* Continuing education or training as required for personal development or organisational needs.
* Establishing liaison with colleagues in the dental profession, other health care professions and voluntary and local authority organisations to promote dental and general health care.
* Appropriate referral of patients to secondary and tertiary services where clinically indicated.
* Other duties appropriate to the grade and special projects as determined by the Clinical Director.
* Annual staff appraisal process with the Clinical Director.
* Environmental considerations: minimising waste, energy usage, and environmental impact of supplies.

Person Specification
Knowledge
* Basic Life Support
* Compliance with training in core CPD determined by the GDC
* Compliance with training in Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice
* Knowledge of SDCEP and FGDP(UK) guidance around prescribing in dental practice
* Legislative framework governing the delivery of oral health care in England.
* Knowledge of legislation and guidance around the process of consent
* Proven experience and competence in routine minor oral surgery
* Training in the identification, management and treatment of urgent and emergency dental care clinical presentations
* Knowledge of SOE dental software.
Qualifications
* BDS or equivalent
* Dental Foundation Training completed (or equivalence achieved)
* NHS England Performer List registration
