Job title: Senior Engineer – Product Safety
Location: Portsmouth Naval Base. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements. Please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on skills and experience.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Being part of the Safety and Environmental Hub organisation to support the QEC, T45, T23, Hunt, and OPV platforms.
2. Ensuring RN Platform compliance with UK and International Legislation and other MOD procedures.
3. Working with engineering and In-Service Support teams to provide Safety & Environmental input to safety case reports, hazards, and risks associated with engineering change.
4. Completing and overseeing the delivery of safety assessment and management tasks, both internally and externally.
5. Attending and representing Class Safety Leads at design reviews, hazard identification, and risk assessment workshops.
6. Participating in developing, maintaining, and modifying Maritime Services Product Safety & Environmental governance documentation, including policy, framework, and processes.
7. Keeping up to date with safety & environmental legislation and advising colleagues and stakeholders on compliance requirements.
8. Reviewing and responding to safety-related engineering queries from capability insertion and maintenance activities.
9. Making safety and environmental management decisions within your responsibility sphere.
Your skills and experiences:
HNC in an engineering subject or demonstrable experience within an engineering sector such as naval, maritime, oil and gas, pharma, or similar. Suitable for early careers engineers or those seeking a new challenge. Training will be provided.

The Product Safety team:
As a Product Safety Engineer, you’ll support diverse safety engineering tasks within a hub of Safety Engineers, liaising with project and engineering teams across BAE and MoD. The role involves ship visits, occasional travel, and engineering experience expansion opportunities.
