Help make a difference in children’s lives by supporting their health and well‑being! We’re looking for a caring and motivated individual to assist with vision, hearing, NCMP, and other routine health screenings across Medway schools. you’ll work alongside our friendly nursing team to ensure children are healthy, ready to learn, and up to date on required screenings. This role is ideal for someone with healthcare experience who enjoys working with children in a supportive school environment. This post is based on annualised hours (41 weeks per year), with an expectation that you will work during school terms plus an additional two weeks during the summer holiday. Key Responsibilities

* To work as a member of the school health team delivering high‑quality care to children, young people and their families.
* To support the implementation of associated screening assessments as identified in the Healthy Child Programme, including documentation.
* To support the planning and delivery of the NCMP (National Child Measurement Programme) to children in both Reception and Year 6, in line with local and national guidance.
* To support the planning and delivery of hearing and vision screening to reception‑aged school children.
* To deliver public health and health education sessions within primary schools as required (e.g. hand‑washing).
* To work autonomously without the direct supervision of a professionally qualified clinician.
* To provide ad‑hoc screening checks to children and young people referred to the school nursing team delegated by the Clinical Lead or Lead School Nurse.

Communication and Relationship Skills

* Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children, young people, families, colleagues and partner agencies.
* Ensure effective communication where there may be barriers to acceptance/understanding (e.g. sensitive conversations; where English is not the first language).
* Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information, including informing parents of screening test results, using a behaviour change approach (Making Every Contact Count).
* Ensure all information about children, young people and families is treated confidentially and complies with local and national guidance on data protection, information sharing and governance.
* Participate in team and other meetings as required.
* Ability to work effectively in a shared office space.


Knowledge, Training and Experience

* NVQ level 3 or equivalent recognised qualification in child care/early years or health & social care.
* Knowledge of child development.
* Experience of working with children, families and other agencies.
* Undertake the organisation’s corporate and local induction, and maintain compliance with training requirements relevant to your role.
* Actively participate in clinical and safeguarding supervision relevant to role.
* Responsible for maintaining up‑to‑date evidence‑based skills, knowledge and competency of role requirements.
* Ensure compliance with statutory and mandatory training.
* Knowledge and experience of MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.


Analytical and Judgment Skills

* Act as a professional and clinical role model to all staff, clients, service users and partner agencies.
* Assess, implement and plan services under the guidance of the Senior Clinical Worker/Lead School Nurse and/or Clinical Lead.
* Evaluate and adjust plans appropriately to ensure the completion of the work/cohort in liaison with senior clinicians.
* Use observation skills and feedback to senior clinicians if concerned.
* Adhere to local and national guidance in the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. Escalate concerns identified.


Planning and Organisational Skills

* Excellent time management and organisational skills to facilitate delivery of the screening schedule, ensuring KPI are met.
* Manage own time, ensuring all allocated tasks are completed in a timely manner, escalating to senior clinician if unable to do so.
* Identify and escalate to senior clinician any identified challenges in achieving planned schedule.
* Facilitate presentations on health promotion.
* Have the ability to adapt and be flexible in responding to changing needs and demands of the service.
* Ensure statutory and mandatory training is up to date in line with the organisational policy.
* Have the ability to screen questionnaires and identify those requiring additional support.


Physical Skills

* Transport and set up equipment to undertake screening checks as part of the NCMP, vision/hearing screening and health promotion activities.
* Use a range of clinical skills including weighing and measuring, hearing and vision screening and facilitating health promotion activities.
* Basic IT and keyboard skills, including the use of Word & Excel and the ability to learn and utilise programmes specific to task (e.g. RiO; Thomson Screening).
* Ability to travel to a range of community settings in a timely manner, including schools, allocated base, clinics.


Patient / Client Care Responsibilities

* Liaise with partner agencies to provide a seamless experience and quality outcome including completing onward referrals to external agencies such as ophthalmology and audiology.
* Actively promote equality and value diversity.
* Adhere to local and national guidance/legislation for safeguarding children and adults.
* Comply with confidentiality requirements.
* Maintain the privacy and dignity of the child at all times – e.g. the completion of measurements should be done sensitively with due regard to cultural and religious requirements (e.g. not removing headwear; parental/carer’s wishes) and in a private setting.
* Ensure effective and sensitive communication with children and families.
* Maintain clinical competency and continuous professional development.
* Access clinical supervision as per organisational policy.


Policy and Service Development Responsibilities

* Maintain a professional manner and act as a role model, adhering to organisational policies and protocols.
* Ensure that organisational policies and procedures are adhered to.
* Actively promote and embed new processes within the team, following direction from Lead School Nurse and/or Clinical Lead.
* Review day‑to‑day process and identify potential improvements to service delivery in discussion with Lead School Nurse.
* Support the Lead School Nurse and/or Clinical Lead with the creation and embedding of new processes/sops.
* Participate in clinical audit and clinical governance activities to improve standards and outcomes.
* Contribute to the achievement of organisation and service objectives.


Equipment and Resource Responsibilities

* Ensure that equipment is transported, stored and used safely and correctly.
* Comply with the organisational standing orders and standing financial instructions.


Human Resources Responsibilities

* Adhere to all organisational policy and procedures.
* Participate in own appraisal and clinical supervision.
* Provide support and advice to other colleagues within the team.
* Support the team in providing placements for students and other colleagues.


Information Resources Responsibilities

* Responsibility for timely, accurate record‑keeping and safeguarding client confidentiality by adhering to Caldicott Principles.
* Ensure records are kept up to date and safeguard patient confidentiality by being aware of professional, legal and ethical responsibilities.
* Record and submit accurate, timely data and information to inform Public Health England, service planning, management and evaluation.


Research and Development Responsibilities

* Actively participate in clinical audit and clinical governance activities to maintain quality of service and support service developments.


Freedom to Act

* Work as a member of the School Health Team, under the guidance of the Senior Clinical Support Worker/Lead School Nurse and/or Clinical Lead.
* Plan and organise workload and that of the screening team using initiative, escalating to line manager as required guided by defined policies and procedures.
