QA Supervisor - Permanent - Oldham Based
Park Cakes is a c£250 million business which supplies cake and desserts to serve the own brands of major retailers, with three sites in the North West at Heywood, Oldham and Bolton. The products include high-end celebration cake products, slab cakes and mainstream desserts, predominantly supplied to Marks & Spencer along with other major retailers.
The role involves leading a team of 10+ direct reports across three shifts, ensuring compliance with industry standards, customer codes of practice and internal requirements. The supervisor will serve as the primary point of contact for quality and food safety issues during shifts and handovers, collaborating across departments to foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure all Food Safety due diligence controls are maintained, trained for, followed, completed, recorded and stored correctly.
* Control and maintain all other QA documents, ensuring they are stored when completed.
* Train QA auditors and ensure they are fully capable of fulfilling their duties.
* Guarantee that all team members have annual PDR (Performance Development Review) and PDP (Personal Development Plan) in place.
* Communicate relevant information so that the team functions as a cohesive unit.
* Represent the department cross‑functionally with other teams.
* Assist the Technical Site Manager and Technical Director with projects and contribute to the overall Technical function.
* Ensure new starters have clear development plans, training matrices are up to date and training records are maintained.
* Manage holiday cover, absenteeism and return‑to‑work arrangements.
* Train and mentor direct reports on procedures, keeping training records current.
* Oversee the team's workload and manage deadlines.
* Support QA and Operations teams in compliance with factory procedures and customer policies.
* Act as the point of contact for quality and food safety concerns during shifts.
* Participate in auditing processes, including QMS, GMP, fabrication and CCP audits.
* Manage the site's probes and scales calibration schedule, ensuring on‑time completion.
* Assist Technical Managers with handling holds, concessions, rejections and incidents, keeping logs up to date daily.
* Ensure QP030 engineering sign‑back forms are completed per shift.
* Ensure site swabbing plans and testing protocols are executed on schedule.
* Monitor and report on technical KPIs.
* Manage and delegate QAS documents and line standards across the team.
* Manage sample requests across the business.
* Support and participate in customer visits and technical audits.
* Assist with day‑to‑day BRC and retailer audit management, resolving non‑conformances.
Ideal Skills & Qualifications
* Experience in quality within the food industry, ideally in a supervisory position managing larger teams.
* Degree or relevant qualification in Food.
* Knowledge or experience in HACCP and GMP.
* Computer experience with MS Office and online software.
* SAP experience preferred.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Full UK driving licence.
Hours & Working Conditions
39 hours per week, Monday–Friday approximately 8 am–4:30 pm with a degree of flexibility to cover all QA’s across three shifts. Occasional weekend work or extended hours may be required.
Package
Salary up to £34,800 per annum. The role is site based with no home working. 25 days holiday a year plus 8 statutory holidays. Money purchase pension scheme with statutory contribution and discount scheme across several online and high street retailers.
