Offer description

Are you inspired by challenging the status quo? Do you thrive in collaborative environments that drive results? If so, Gates could be for you.

Gates is a leading manufacturer of application‑specific fluid power and power transmission solutions. We push the boundaries of material science to engineer solutions that continually exceed customer expectations.

Let’s simplify it: think belts and hoses. Found in motorcycles, conveyor belts, cars, tractors, blenders, vacuum cleaners, bicycles, & 3D printers just to name a few. Because why not do it all?

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The HSE Manager is the primary contact for all health, safety and environmental matters onsite. Must ensure that all operational systems and procedures are in strict adherence to ISO 9000, ISO/TS16949 and other applicable industry standards. Maintain compliance with ISO14001, ISO18000, ISO50001, environmental and health & safety accreditation. Review HSE policies to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and corporate policy, updating management of changes that may affect the company and individual responsibilities.

Prepare and report on site KPIs relating to accidents, incidents, risks and statistics, as dictated by external bodies and Gates HSE Excellence, and drive improvement where required.

Handle day‑to‑day collaboration with local teams, site managers and be available for any level of employee on HSE queries. Maintain direct contact with the HS & E Coordinator for Europe and other local HS & E Coordinators in Europe. Serve as the external liaison with authorities such as the Health and Safety Executive, Glasgow, SEPA, local environmental authorities, Trading Standards, Scottish Water and BSI.

Act as the Management Representative onsite for ISO 14001 and OHSAS 45001/PPC, responsible for developing and updating policies, serving as the audit contact and preparing schedule for site assessments.

Support the DOFO and Operations Manager and wider teams in implementing ISO 50001. Review onsite training material and, where necessary, conduct basic awareness training for all employees. Ensure safe evacuation of all personnel in any major incident and assist in investigations to establish cause and prevent recurrence.

The incumbent reports directly to the DOFO, Dumfries, and functionally to the HSE Manager, Europe. Receives support from two formally trained part‑time COSHH Representatives. Has authority to bring non‑conformances to management’s attention that require immediate improvement or corrective action.
