The Opportunity
Are you currently teaching Automotive Studies or working in the automotive industry and considering your next step?
At Barnsley College, we're looking to speak with experienced Automotive professionals and Lecturers who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and shaping the next generation of skilled technicians and engineers.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Engineering department, delivering high quality teaching, learning and assessment across Automotive qualifications from Level 1 to Level 3 and T Level programmes. Your industry experience will be highly valued as you bring real world expertise into both the workshop and classroom.
You'll deliver engaging lessons covering key areas such as vehicle maintenance, repair, diagnostics, and electrical and electronic systems. You'll also introduce learners to modern automotive technologies including hybrid and electric vehicles, ensuring they are prepared for the evolving demands of the industry.
What makes this role particularly rewarding is the impact you'll have on learners' futures. You'll support students in developing practical skills, technical knowledge and professional behaviours that prepare them for employment, apprenticeships or higher education.
Working closely with Course Leaders and colleagues, you'll contribute to curriculum development to ensure programmes reflect current industry standards and employer expectations. From planning schemes of work and lesson plans to assessing progress and providing constructive feedback, you'll play a central role in learner success.
If you enjoy mentoring, passing on your technical expertise and seeing learners progress into successful careers, this role offers genuine job satisfaction while keeping you connected to the industry you know.
About You
We're keen to hear from individuals with strong technical expertise in Automotive Studies who can engage, motivate and inspire learners.

You'll be confident delivering practical, hands-on workshop sessions alongside structured classroom theory, supporting learners of all abilities to develop both technical competence and professional confidence. You'll be able to motivate students to attend, participate and achieve, creating a supportive and challenging learning environment where every learner can progress.
Creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment will be central to your approach, allowing learners of all abilities to thrive.
