To join a committed, skilled and supportive team who are physically involved in the nursing care of up to 36 residents aged 65+. To take responsibility for and effectively supervise the day-to-day running of the Home in conjunction with the Registered Manager, or during her absence. To demonstrate the skill and knowledge required for the day to day running of a busy nursing home.
1. To be aware of each resident’s social and medical needs and ensure that these needs are met.
2. Undertake drug rounds at prescribed times – ensuring sufficient drugs available for the following 24 hours.
3. To administer, check and assist with the administration of controlled drugs, and sign for these with another trained colleague.
4. Complete drug charts correctly on the electronic system (Med-e-care) and report any drug errors to the Registered Manager, Family and the GP. Complete an incident form.
5. To document incidents and report in real time on the electronic system.
6. Carry out prescribed dressings.
7. Carry out nursing procedures as necessary, which may include blood glucose estimation, B.P.s, temperatures, urine testing, catheterisation, syringe driver, venepuncture.
8. Ensure all charts, when in use, are kept up to date, including on the electronic system.
9. Undertake nursing assessments as required
10. Participate in and coordinate GP rounds/ consultations and CHC (Continuing Health Care) reviews
11. Undertake the role of Named Nurse for allocated residents being responsible for commencing, updating and reviewing care plans and risk assessments.
12. Report all happenings and untoward incidents to the Registered Manager/ Business Manager.
13. Complete report sheet at end of shift, and handover.
14. To promote the general appearance of residents at all times.
15. Assist in teaching Care Assistants to carry out their duties and to understand the abilities and disabilities of each resident.
16. Undertake supervision of Care Staff when requested by the Registered Manager.
17. Prescribe, promote and assist in personal hygiene, mobility, toileting and toilet training for all residents, in conjunction with Care Assistants.
18. Assist in serving of meals and feeding of residents if necessary, ensuring adequate fluid and food intake.
19. Help to promote a better quality of life for the residents by encouraging them to join in activities and in general conversation.
20. Answer emergency bells, the door and telephone; greet visitors.
21. Be aware of all Health and safety and fire regulations at all times. Attend training on these as required.
22. Undertake statutory and mandatory training, and any other training relevant to your role as a registered nurse.
23. To carry out any other duties that might be reasonably requested by the Registered Manager or Business Manager.
