Strategic Negotiator, Global Network Acquisitions

Company: Google
Location: London, UK; Dublin, Ireland
Job Level: Mid

About the job

As Google's products and services grow to serve our billions of users, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future. It's a big job that involves everything from operating underwater cables to finding data center space. In this role you combine your deep market knowledge with tech industry savvy to find solutions that support Google's growth. You’ll work with specific teams to oversee vendor and partner relationships. Your successful management skills have the potential to impact every part of the business and save Google millions of dollars in operating costs. You'll ensure contract compliance on our third‑party agreements while identifying the most cost‑effective solutions for our needs. You’ll take lead on special projects, manage vendors and present your recommendations to Google leadership.

The Global Network Acquisition (GNA) team’s mission is to secure network infrastructure assets for the production network. Our team includes subject‑matter experts comfortable negotiating strategic transactions involving dark fibre, interconnect/peering, co‑location space and terrestrial wavelengths. We structure agreements to acquire existing network assets when available, but often design and build new assets customized to serve Google’s portfolio of products and services.

As a Strategic Negotiator, you will collaborate with internal planning teams and external vendors while weighing market forces in order to deliver optimal, scalable network solutions. Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google’s product portfolio possible.

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Infrastructure, Real Estate, or related fields or equivalent practical experience.
* 4 years of experience managing projects or supporting the planning and development of agreements.
* Experience in managing and partnering with partners to create relationships and business outcomes and in growing partners’ businesses.
* Experience in performing data‑driven network availability and resiliency analysis.

Preferred qualifications

* Experience in strategic negotiations and business development within the Europe telecommunications infrastructure sector, specifically including areas such as collocation data centres, fibre networks, transport services, and interconnects.
* Experience in financial background, focusing on network present value calculations, agreement structuring, and return on investment analysis.
* Understanding of regulatory frameworks and business practices within the telecommunications market.

Responsibilities

* Develop and maintain long‑term relationships with key commercial partners including telecommunications companies, network carriers and co‑location operators for the purposes of managing our strategies of asset acquisition, deep edge network penetration, and Cloud partnerships.
* Cultivate and grow relationships with vendors and partners to facilitate executing on time, high‑quality contracts and orders. Work closely with our planning, tax, policy, legal, and treasury teams while identifying the most cost‑effective solutions and optimal commercial frameworks for our needs.
* Coordinate with regional planning terms to develop strategic road‑maps that guide long‑term asset acquisition strategies. Research and understand market forces in the network infrastructure industry and incorporate these signals into Google’s acquisition strategies and new market entry.
* Identify, evaluate and acquire metro fibre, long haul dark fibre assets, co‑location services.
