An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and innovative Senior Biomedical Scientist to work in our newly refurbished Cellular pathology department. The post holder will be expected to work closely with other senior staff across pathology to deliver a high quality service to our users.
The successful candidate will be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio and hold an appropriate higher qualification. Applicants must provide evidence of obtaining the relevant higher qualification within 3 months of appointment.
Working hours: extended day Monday‑Friday 7am‑6pm, rotational basis, including 1:6 Saturday rotation.
Main duties of the job
This is a senior level laboratory post which will include provision of supervision, training and management to provide a technical service meeting both Trust and national standards.
Responsibilities include:
* In‑depth knowledge of cellular pathology and intrinsic involvement in quality and service development
* Supervision, training and management of staff
* Deputising for the relevant Lead scientist as required
* Participation in regional and national groups to develop guidelines and support pathology provision across the NHS
* Analysis and processing of pathology specimens and providing technically accurate results
* Routine specimen dissection
Qualifications
* IBMS accredited degree or equivalent documented in application
* HCPC registration
* MSc Biomedical Science (or equivalent e.g. IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma)
* Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
* Management or Leadership qualification
Experience
* Extensive laboratory experience
* Management / Supervisory experience
* Experience of Quality Management Systems
* Experience of UKAS accreditation
* Evidence of contribution to or management of a service change project
Knowledge and Skills
* Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques and biomedical science
* Good working knowledge of Pathology IT systems and IT literate in MS Office
* Training, mentoring and staff development
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and safety measures
* Planning and organisational skills
