Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Assistant to join our Pharmacy team at HMP Wayland, a Category C prison located in Thetford.
HMP Wayland is a male prison housing around 900 inmates. The prison focuses on resettlement and offers training in preparation for release. We are recruiting for a Pharmacy Assistant to support the pharmacy team with tasks such as medication rounds, vaccinations and nicotine replacement programmes. Experience in phlebotomy and vaccinations is desirable but training will be provided for those with a pharmacy background.

Main duties of the job
* Complete general dispensary duties and stock management.
* Work as an active member of the Pharmaceutical team to ensure delivery of the pharmaceutical service.
* Provide a timely and efficient service to the prison wings.
* Receive prescriptions and stick returns from wing‑based clinical areas.
* Collect orders from suppliers at the Main Gate and arrange collection of returns.
* Participate in dispensing of prescriptions.

Qualifications required
* NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent (or working towards).
* Medicines handling experience desirable but not essential.
* Level 2 English and Maths or equivalent.
* A non‑judgmental and compassionate approach.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Good IT skills and IT literacy.
* Ability to work within a busy environment.
* Ability to work unsupervised whilst following policy and procedures.
Person Specification
Legal right to work in the UK. Additional vetting and security checks will be required due to the nature of the role.
