We are seeking
to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Viral Genomics/Immunology to join a major international research programme. Working to the establish burden, host (immune) response, and population level variation across nine countries with varying levels of transmission of dengue fever and Zika virus (DENV/ZIKV). With outbreaks of these viruses continuing to rise globally, particularly across Africa and Asia, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to vital research shaping public health preparedness. You will be part of a collaborative team working across Oxford, Bristol, and other partner institutions, supported by leading investigators in computational and immunological research. You will be responsible for leading the alignment and analysis of viral genomes to assess genetic variability and conservation across DENV and ZIKV strains, developing computational algorithms to evaluate viral diversity, and working closely with immunologists to design peptide sets for immune response analysis. The role will involve managing your own academic research, developing and optimising analytical pipelines, adapting new scientific techniques, and contributing to publications in peer-reviewed journals. You’ll also be expected to collaborate with colleagues across international partner sites, present research findings at internal and external meetings, and contribute ideas for new projects and approaches. This position combines computational and biological analysis, so a balance of technical coding skills and scientific understanding will be important. It is essential you hold PhD/DPhil, or close to completing, in a relevant subject such as virology, immunology. You should have hands-on experience in viral genomics and immunology, with a good grasp of computational coding and data analysis. The ability to plan and manage your own research, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records is essential. You’ll need to demonstrate strong communication skills both written and verbal with experience contributing to scientific publications and presenting findings to varied audiences. A commitment to high standards, including record keeping and laboratory management.
