Quality Control Inspector - Machine Shop
What you will be doing
The machine shop operates across 5 cells producing seals and bearings for the marine sector and various navies around the globe.
Product inspection
* Responsible for inspecting components at various stages through the production process including final inspection.
* Raise non‑conformances in accordance with the non‑conformance process.
* Perform extra duties or special projects when requested.
* Read and interpret technical drawings and related documentation such as purchase orders and concessions.
* Effectively communicate with the Quality Assurance department and/or management regarding quality control issues.
* Inspect as per current procedure and specification and release parts to stores, assembly and packaging areas.
* Collate and record traceability details to assist QA with MDR Quality Packs and Class Visits.
* Apply problem‑solving techniques to support root cause analysis and investigations.
Flexibility is key for this position with a wide variety of duties to be carried out safely and accurately, working to our OTIF (On Time Delivery In Full) target.
Work both individually and effectively as part of the Logistics Team.
Maintain a safe working environment and high standard of housekeeping.
Key responsibilities
* Possess general knowledge of quality system regulations and international standards.
* Utilise inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, thread gauges to check dimensions and processes on parts or raw material, ensuring compliance with manufacturing drawings, blueprints and specifications.
* Work closely with Quality Control Inspectors, Project Engineering, Quality Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure all activities comply with process work documents.
* Ensure in‑process inspections are completed per engineering specifications during production.
* Perform mechanical, visual, and dimensional inspections using hand tools.
* Potentially perform CMM programming and inspection (or previously trained).
* Communicate with the Supply Quality Assurance Engineer on quality issues.
* Attach correct labels to outside of storage cartons and pallets, store product in the warehouse, and adjust inventory in the system.
* Work from engineering drawings for visual dimensional inspection of purchased or manufactured products using measuring instruments.
* Perform any other duties that may be required.
* Communicate with all operations teams to ensure proactive actions are taken to meet OTIF.
* Drive continuous improvement of processes and procedures.
* Conduct all duties safely, following health and safety procedures.
Qualifications
* Experience in mechanical and electrical component inspection.
* Familiarity with basic mechanical inspection tools.
* Proficiency with dimensional inspection hand tools.
* Knowledge of FDA, GMP, ISO 13485 and related standards.
* Experience/background in a production/engineering environment (essential).
* Understanding of health and safety environment and procedures.
* Mechanical/assembly aptitude.
* Ability to read and understand drawings.
* Minimum of 5 years mechanical inspection experience desirable.
* Effective communication skills with colleagues.
* Flexibility to work across Logistics Operations teams.
* Ideally college‑level education, mechanical apprenticeship, or solid manufacturing experience.
* Proficiency with industry standard computer packages (Microsoft, MRP systems).
* Good knowledge and understanding of SAP.
