The recent transfer of responsibilities for local passenger transport provision into the Sustainable Travel Team has led to a number of positions becoming available.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has an interest in Sustainable Travel and wants to work within a large and multi-faceted team to drive forward the council's sustainable travel agenda.
The work of the team includes the promotion of cycling, walking, car-sharing and public transport, the management of the council’s supported passenger transport network and the council’s extensive Public Rights of Way network.
About the Role
We are looking to recruit 2 Inspectors.
Post 1 - Full time permanent
Post 2 - Full time fixed term for 2 years
The successful candidates will be predominantly non-office based, undertaking a programme of inspections of local transport services and timetable displays around the county.
The main duties for this role include;
1. To carry out inspections of contract operation, time-keeping and other matters relevant to passenger transport services
2. Assist with the collection of bus service data as required including on-bus passenger surveys, distribution of bus related information and updating roadside displays
3. To inspect passengers’ tickets for correctness, examine driver’s documentation for accuracy and record usage and revenue of individual journeys.
About You

4. Hold a valid full driving licence
5. Have a good standard of education including English and Mathematics at GCSE Grade 4-9 (or equivalent) OR Demonstrable experience in the points below
6. Have good numeracy skills and experience of using Spreadsheets and Database systems to check information as well as accurately input information, update records and extract data.
7. Have good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to handle confrontation and respond to customer queries face to face in a calm and professional manner
8. Be able to understand bus schedules and timetables.
9. Have good organisational skills with a logical approach to plan and prioritise work, together with a keen attention to detail and an ability to use own initiative and work with minimal supervision
