This role is defined as a safety critical role within the Drug & Alcohol Testing Procedure. You must therefore be willing to comply in accordance with this procedure.

About The Post

The role of Service delivery assistant involves several key responsibilities and requirements. The responsibilities include performing basic repairs and maintenance on the council's fleet to the required standard, assisting with moving various vehicle types between council and third-party premises, and safely driving and operating council vehicles and equipment following training and safe working practices. The role also involves engaging in physically demanding tasks such as heavy lifting, operating powered tools, and working outdoors in all conditions. Managing your driving licence is essential. Staying informed about policies and procedures affecting service delivery, maintaining accurate electronic and paper-based records, and communicating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders are also key responsibilities. Additionally, contributing to relevant policy development within the department, adhering to Health & Safety requirements, and performing other duties as requested by management are part of the role.

For education and training, a Level 2 Motor Vehicle Qualification or significant experience is required, along with a Category B Driving Licence. The role also requires a Category C and D1 Driving Licence or willingness to obtain them within 6 months, a Driver Qualification Card (Driver CPC) or willingness to obtain it within 6 months, and an IOSH working safely certificate or equivalent.

Relevant experience includes carrying out minor vehicle repairs, professional driving of various vehicles, operating vehicle-related equipment and machinery, working in a physically demanding environment, contributing to policy/procedure formulation, verbal communication with diverse audiences, completing written and electronic records, adhering to vehicle repair standards and legislation, and carrying out basic repairs to vehicles and equipment in line with manufacturer information and guidance.

General and special knowledge required for the role includes Health and Safety in vehicle operation and repair, basic transport industry issues and priorities, Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, Word), partnership working practices, and the pressures facing local government.

Skills and abilities needed for the role include strong communication and interpersonal skills, effective workload management and problem-solving, teamwork and partnership collaboration, professional completion of paperwork and electronic data, the ability to relay detailed information verbally, and the capability for lone working without supervision.

Additional requirements include flexibility to meet operational needs and a commitment to training and continuous professional development.
