Job overview
As a member of the With Me in Mind team, the CBT therapist will support the delivery of best practice CBT therapy in line with MHST and NICE guidelines.
The postholder will work across the locality and build effective working relationships with school staff, young people, and colleagues within the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST). The post holder will work closely the Clinical Lead and CBT Lead
Main duties of the job
- To provide clinical expertise within the Mental Health Support Team, providing high quality, and quick access to mental health support to young people in schools and their families or carers.
- To support psychological practice within the team through consultation, supervision, formulation and training by participating in systematic clinical governance.
- To work with moderate presentations as part of a stepped care approach within the team, utilising a high level of knowledge and experience and adapting approaches as appropriate, with regard to evidence based practice.
- Deliver evidence-based intervention for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health problems.
- Helping children and young people within these settings who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist CAMHS services
- Supporting/facilitating staff in education settings to identify and where appropriate manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing
- Working with and within education environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services.
- To provide high quality evidenced based supervision (individual and group) to both qualified and trainee EMHP’s around a variety of presenting issues relating to low to moderate level emotional wellbeing and behavioural needs.

Qualifications
- Accredited with BABCP or willingness to work towards accreditation (development post)
- Core profession or significant equivalent experience
- Teaching and assessing in clinical practice of equivalent.
- A qualification or have undertaken a program of formal training in Clinical Supervision (e.g. completion of a specialist Clinical Supervision Module). (training can be provided)
Experience
- Evidence of Post Registration experience delivering CBT interventions in line with NICE guidelines in a mental health setting
- Experience of working with Children & Young people and families.
- Experience of assessment, formulation and delivery of a wide range of therapeutic CBT interventions for mild to complex mental health presentations.
- Ability to assess, contain and manage complex cases in the setting of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience in supporting and educating professional staff and partners in care.
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Experience of and application of audit and evaluation.
- Experience of making effective use of regular Clinical Supervision in CBT from accredited CBT Psychotherapists.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage a caseload.
- Experience of multi-disciplinary team working.
- Experience of working within a CAMHS service
- Experience of working with minority groups
- Experience of Providing Clinical Supervision. to accredited CB Psychotherapists and other mental health professionals as required, e.g. psychiatrists, psychologists, CPNs.
- Regularly provide and evaluate teaching and training packages.
- Previous experience of managing cases of deliberate self-harm.
- Experience of participation in service development
Knowledge
- Ability to make autonomous clinical judgements involving highly complex facts or situations, which require the analysis, interpretation and comparisons of a range of clinical options.
- Delivery of consultation and advice on matters related to CBT to members of the multi-disciplinary team, universal services professionals, and other agencies responsible for Children & Young People’s care.
- Up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies, guidelines, and clinical issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.
- Utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other teams.
- Developed professional links with other CB Therapists around the country
Skills
- Establish and maintain effective professional relationships and communications with managers, mental health professionals and other agencies
- Ability to develop and maintain effective therapeutic alliances with patients, who may be challenging, highly emotive and distressed.
- Deliver formal psychological treatment and/or management of patients with highly complex mental health problems. Employing methods based on evidence across a wide range of care settings.
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers, and other professional colleagues, both within and outside the NHS
- Maintain up to date clinical records, including electronic data entry, text processing, report compiling.
- Advanced information technology and keyboard skills.
