Position: POLICE OFFICER
Portage Police Department, City of Portage, WI (Population 10,581)

Responsibilities:
Perform general police functions including patrol, criminal law enforcement, traffic and ordinance enforcement, maintaining public peace, protecting life and property, and working with the community to address community problems. Ability to work independently and in a team environment, face challenges, and respond effectively to stressful situations.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting wage of $32.37 per hour with lateral transfer opportunities (DOQ). Schedule: 6-3 with plans to move to a 12-hour Pittman schedule in January 2026. Benefits include Wisconsin Retirement Fund, health and life insurance, paid holidays (10), vacation, sick leave, clothing allowance, deferred compensation, and a relocation bonus. Lateral transfer candidates must be sworn officers currently employed full-time elsewhere. The Chief has discretion to determine pay, vacation, and sick leave based on experience, education, and skills.
Qualifications:
* U.S. citizen
* Valid driver’s license with a good record
* Good physical condition
* Eligible for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification (preferred but not mandatory; sponsorship available)
* High School diploma and 60 college credits
* Ability to possess a firearm
* No felony or domestic abuse convictions
* Vision correctable to 20/20
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to handle multiple tasks and work evenings, weekends, and holidays
* Proficient with law enforcement equipment
