About the Role
Bury Council’s Waste Management services, based at Bradley Fold, operates under the Place Directorate. The role involves overseeing the daily operations of waste and recycling collection, disposal, and recycling services to ensure that waste management is conducted efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulations.
As Waste Operations Supervisor, you will support the Head of Service in delivering the Council’s vision and strategic plans for Street Cleansing Services, ensuring a high-quality waste management service that meets the needs of the community and aligns with the broader goals of the Place Directorate.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee the collection, transportation, and disposal of waste, recycling, and other materials.
* Deploy staff and equipment effectively to meet service demands.
* Plan and organise resources, including vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are well-maintained and fit for use.
* Manage, lead and motivate a team of waste collection staff, fostering a positive working environment to drive performance and efficient practices.
* Handle staff recruitment, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
* Monitor attendance, manage sickness, and oversee staff scheduling to ensure full operational coverage.
* Ensure all operations comply with health and safety regulations, waste management laws, and local authority policies.
* Implement and enforce safety procedures to protect workers and the public.
* Monitor service performance against set standards and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
* Address complaints or issues raised by the public or other stakeholders regarding waste services.
Working Hours
This is a full-time role, consisting of 37 hours per week, aligned with regular business hours. Depending on service requirements, you may occasionally be required to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays on a rota basis. The role may involve on-site supervision and occasional hands‑on tasks, so flexibility is essential to meet operational needs.
