The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) is at the forefront of devising and implementing policy to transition the transport sector to net zero emissions by 2050. It is a joint unit working within two government departments – the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
OZEV manages a range of nationally significant policies, including the phase out of all new non-zero emission cars and vans in 2030 and the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate, the largest carbon emissions reduction measure in Government.
The change required is profound. It will require transformation across the economy, from the way cars are manufactured and regulated to the electricity infrastructure under our streets and power generated across the country. Government, industry, consumer groups and others are working together to achieve this transformation.

Making the ZEV transition work across the economy requires targeted policy interventions from driving licences to government procurement. The vehicle policy team is responsible for identifying and resolving those challenges, tracking trends in the market, and supporting the ZEV agenda across Whitehall.
This is an exciting position that will provide you with valuable insights into policy, economic analysis, operational delivery, engagement and political facets of a major environmental policy.
Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:
* Lead on policy to support the used EV market and the fleet transition (public and private), working across regulation, taxation, and market analysis to remove barriers impeding the transition to zero emission cars and vans.
* Lead on policy development for the Government Fleet Commitment, working with other Government departments and DfT ALBs to support the commitment and providing updates to Ministers and the Permanent Secretary.
* Maintain oversight of skills and training policy, trade policy, and as they relate to EVs.
* Advise Ministers and senior civil servants at pace on key issues relating to the ZEV transition.
* Contributing to the positive team environment in the Vehicles, Consumer and Strategy division and be an active member of OZEV Directorate.
* Prepare ministerial submissions, briefings, and responses to parliamentary questions.
