Head of Legal | PWN 2026 Board - Volunteer

Join the Board of PWN London as Head of Legal and play a key role in shaping our new Legal Hub and charity transition. You’ll guide governance, compliance, and contracts, ensuring our ambitious projects grow on a strong, ethical, and sustainable foundation.

The Head of Legal will be essential in guiding PWN London through one of its most important transformations becoming a registered charity and establishing our Legal Hub. Their expertise will ensure that we move forward with clarity, compliance, and confidence — protecting our organisation, members, and partners as we grow.

By overseeing our legal transition, this trustee will help us meet Charity Commission requirements, strengthen our governance structure, and build credibility with funders, sponsors, and external stakeholders. This change will allow PWN London to access new funding streams, form stronger partnerships, and expand our impact across the UK and beyond.

The Head of Legal will also ensure that our day‑to‑day operations — from sponsorship contracts to partnership agreements — are legally sound and aligned with our mission. Their work will reduce risks, streamline processes, and bring greater professionalism to our internal governance.

Ultimately, this role will give PWN London the legal strength and structure needed to deliver on its ambitious goals. By establishing a solid legal foundation, the trustee will enable the organisation to grow with integrity, scale sustainably, and continue empowering women to lead, innovate, and thrive.

What are we looking for?

* We are looking for a qualified legal professional — ideally with experience in charity law, corporate governance, or non‑profit regulation — who is excited to use their expertise for social good. The ideal trustee will have a strong understanding of compliance, risk management, and legal frameworks relevant to charitable organisations or professional associations.
* Experience in corporate, commercial, or intellectual property law would be highly valuable, particularly for reviewing contracts and partnership agreements. Familiarity with the Charity Commission, GDPR, and volunteer management frameworks would also be beneficial.
* We are seeking someone who can think strategically, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively with a diverse team of professionals. The right person will be proactive, solution‑oriented, and committed to ensuring that our legal processes support — rather than slow down — our creativity and impact.
* Beyond legal expertise, we value integrity, discretion, and a sense of purpose. This role would particularly suit someone who believes in gender equality, ethical leadership, and using professional skills to create meaningful societal change.
* In joining our Board, the Head of Legal will not only strengthen PWN London’s governance but also contribute to shaping a lasting legacy — helping us become a model of excellence, transparency, and empowerment for women across the professional landscape.

What will you be doing?

Our Board is made up of senior professionals from a range of sectors, united by the shared mission of advancing gender‑balanced leadership and empowering women through mentorship, education, and collaboration. As we prepare for the 2026 term, we are entering an exciting period of transformation — one that includes developing a new Legal Hub within the organisation and transitioning PWN London towards charitable status.

We are seeking a Head of Legal to join our Board and guide this process with expertise and vision. This trustee will oversee all legal and governance matters, ensuring that our structure, policies, and contracts support both compliance and growth.

The Head of Legal will play a vital role in steering our transition to a charitable organisation — managing the legal and regulatory framework required by the Charity Commission, reviewing governing documents, and advising on the best legal structure for sustainability and accountability. They will also provide legal oversight for our partnerships, sponsorship agreements, and major events to ensure transparency and risk management.

As the lead of our new Legal Hub, the trustee will help build internal awareness of legal and ethical best practices, supporting our teams in areas such as data protection, intellectual property, and employment or volunteer agreements. This role offers the opportunity to shape the foundation of PWN London’s next chapter — ensuring that our ambitious programmes and global collaborations operate on a strong and compliant framework.

Working closely with the President and the Finance, Partnerships, and Governance committees, the Head of Legal will be instrumental in aligning our legal operations with our long‑term strategy. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to combine legal expertise with purpose — empowering women, building robust governance, and ensuring our vision is delivered with integrity and excellence.
