Business Development Manager – Renewables (South Island)
Renewables is a serious growth category at Ideal Electrical Suppliers, and this role is about turning intent into revenue.
We’re looking for a driven Business Development Manager to own renewables growth across Southern New Zealand. This is a frontline sales role. You’ll be out with customers, building installer relationships, chasing opportunities, and closing work. No hiding behind reports. Your number matters.
You’ll report to the National Sales Manager – Renewables and work closely with branches, sales teams, and support functions to grow share of wallet and expand our installer base.
What you’ll be doing:
* Growing revenue, margin, and market share across your territory
* Building and maintaining strong relationships with renewables installers
* Actively hunting new business and onboarding new installer customers
* Running a disciplined call cycle across your region
* Using sales data properly to identify gaps, opportunities, and wins
* Following up every renewables quotation to lift close rates
* Representing Ideal Electrical professionally in market and at industry events
* Traveling across Southern New Zealand (approximately 2‑4 nights per month, occasional weekends for industry or customer events)
What we’re looking for:
* Commercially sharp and comfortable being measured
* Proven B2B sales experience in renewables and solar sales and new business development
* A track record of winning new business and growing existing accounts
* Industry experience is essential; you know how installers think
* Strong negotiation and relationship‑building skills
* Comfortable working to targets and owning outcomes
* Organised, disciplined, and consistent with follow‑up
* Confident using CRM, estimating, and sales systems
* You don’t wait for leads. You create them.
What success looks like:
* Actual revenue and gross profit delivered against target
* Year‑on‑year growth in renewables sales and margin in your region
* A growing, engaged installer base
* Clean pipeline visibility and consistent quotation conversion
* Strong adoption of sales systems and processes
