Role Overview
An established building services consultancy is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer to join its Edinburgh office. The role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects across the UK, supporting senior engineers in the design and delivery of high-quality electrical building services solutions.
You will contribute to electrical design from concept through to construction, working collaboratively with mechanical engineers, architects, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the design and development of electrical building services systems, including:
o Power distribution
o Lighting and lighting controls
o Emergency lighting
o Small power and data systems
o Fire alarm and life safety systems
* Produce technical calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications
* Support delivery of projects through all RIBA stages
* Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations (BS 7671, CIBSE, Building Regulations)
* Coordinate with internal and external design teams
* Attend project and design team meetings as required
* Support site inspections, surveys, and responses to contractor queries
* Contribute to continuous improvement of technical standards and processes
Skills & Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
* Typically 25 years experience in electrical building services design
* Working knowledge of UK building services standards and regulations
* Experience using industry software such as:
o AutoCAD / Revit
o Electrical calculation tools (e.g. Amtech, Dialux, Relux or similar)
* Ability to work independently on defined tasks with support from senior engineers
* Strong communication and coordination skills
* Enthusiastic, proactive approach to learning and professional development
Desirable
* Progress toward or interest in Chartered Engineer (CEng or IEng) status
* Experience across a range of sectors (commercial, residential, education, healthcare, etc.)
* Familiarity with sustainable design and low-carbon technologies
