About the Role
We are excited to offer an opportunity for an experienced Support Worker to join our brand‑new supported living service in Paignton, specifically supporting individuals with autism. If you have experience working with people on the autism spectrum and a passion for empowering individuals to live fulfilling, independent lives, this is the role for you.
* Provide consistent support to individuals with autism, assisting with daily routines, activities, and ensuring a structured and predictable environment.
* Support individuals to develop life skills and greater independence, encouraging participation in hobbies, social activities, and community integration.
* Help manage healthcare needs, including attending medical appointments, administering medication, and monitoring wellbeing.
* Teach practical life skills such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, and household management.
* Foster positive social interactions, provide emotional support, promote self‑regulation, and help build confidence in social settings.
* Use autism‑specific techniques and strategies to support sensory needs and manage behaviours, ensuring a safe and calming environment.
* Assist with personal care tasks when required, promoting dignity and respecting individual preferences.
* Help with domestic tasks, including cleaning, cooking, and maintaining a comfortable living environment.
Qualifications & Experience
* Prior experience supporting individuals with autism in settings such as supported living or residential care.
* Knowledge of autism spectrum conditions and related communication, behavior, and sensory processing challenges.
* Experience with autism‑specific approaches and strategies to support individuals’ needs.
* Person‑centred, compassionate attitude, adapting support to each individual’s strengths and preferences.
* Flexibility and adaptability to changing needs and a structured routine.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise with families, professionals, and support networks.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
