The Water Consultancy Division provides expertise in water and wastewater challenges, serving clients across the UK and internationally. The team tackles climate change, asset ageing and population growth, delivering advisory, design, construction support and site supervision services.
Job Description
As a Principal Geomorphologist you will lead geomorphology and water environment assessments, working closely with engineers, asset planners and clients to deliver complex multi-disciplinary projects that protect communities and the environment.
Responsibilities
* Provide excellent geomorphological advice for concept, outline and detailed designs in river environments.
* Prepare holistic plans for flood risk management, natural flood management and river restoration/habitat creation schemes.
* Undertake field surveys and collect baseline information on river environments.
* Develop innovations for data collection and interpretation in river and floodplain environments.
* Lead environmental assessments focusing on hydro morphology, including Water Framework Regulations.
* Prepare calculations and reports for erosion risk assessments and mitigation design.
* Mentor junior staff, maintain client relationships, attend conferences, write articles and network across the industry.
Candidate Specification
Lead technical delivery of geomorphology and water environment assessments across the UK and potentially internationally within a multi‑disciplinary team. Key project areas include:
* River restoration and channel design
* Erosion and deposition risk analysis and problem solving
* Asset management
* Water resources
* Infrastructure design
* Environmental assessments
Essential Qualifications
* Relevant degree-level qualifications (e.g., geography, geomorphology, environmental sciences, hydrology, catchment science).
* Chartered status with an appropriate professional body.
* Proven track record of successfully delivering applied river geomorphology projects of varying complexity, including field and desk‑based approaches.
* Understanding of water environment legislation.
* Numerate with skills and interest in environmental data analysis.
* Ability to support and mentor junior staff; strong interpersonal skills in a dynamic, multi‑disciplinary environment.
Desirable Qualifications
* Interest in wider water quality, aquatic ecology or hydrology to complement geomorphological skills.
* Willingness to innovate and develop new solutions.
