Job Description
Process Improvement Engineer
Miskin
Up to £42,000 depending on experience
This role sits within the Additive Manufacturing Group) AMG division and is responsible for supporting and developing the complex high‑precision assembly processes used in the build of additive manufacturing (AM) machines.
As a Process Improvement Engineer, you will take clear ownership of the processes assigned to you, ensuring they consistently deliver high‑quality outputs while identifying and driving improvements across performance, reliability and capability.
Responsibilities
1. You will provide technical support for both routine and complex production activities, ensuring that assembly processes, equipment and supporting documentation are well‑controlled, capable and appropriately maintained. Day‑to‑day, you will monitor and report on key performance metrics such as First Time Pass Rate, yield, scrap cost and overall process health. You will analyse trends, highlight risks, and communicate emerging issues or improvement opportunities clearly and proactively to the wider team.
2. A key part of the role involves structured investigation of process failures and quality defects. You will lead root‑cause analysis activities and will implement corrective and preventative actions that strengthen the robustness of the process. You will also play an active role in defining and assessing preventative maintenance activities, ensuring they remain effective and aligned with operational needs.
3. Your responsibilities will extend beyond reactive support. You will plan and deliver proactive work packages aimed at improving capacity, efficiency, quality and repeatability. This may include the specification and introduction of new tooling, fixtures or equipment, the refinement of process steps, or the development of improved documentation and controls. You will be expected to take ownership of these initiatives, ensuring they are well‑defined, appropriately validated and effectively communicated to production teams.
4. The role also supports new product and process introductions. You will help define the process requirements for new or upgraded products, support the transfer of those processes into production, and ensure that validation activities demonstrate the capability and stability required for volume manufacture. You will work closely with Product Designers to ensure new designs are suitable for assembly and that risks or challenges are identified early.
5. Clear, consistent reporting is essential. You will maintain accurate performance data, communicate issues promptly, and provide regular updates on progress, risks, and achievements. Effective collaboration across engineering, design, quality, and production teams is critical to success.
6. You will work under guidance while steadily gaining ownership of your processes and improvement activities, progressing toward greater independent responsibility as your capability grows
