Job Title: SEN Learning Support Assistant - all year groups Location: Milton Keynes About the School & Pupils We are working with a well‑established specialist provision in Milton Keynes which supports children and young people aged from 4 to 19, across the full age range. The school operates across primary, middle and upper departments and educates students who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or social communication difficulties, alongside associated learning needs. All pupils hold an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and the curriculum is carefully adapted to individual learning pathways, with a focus on communication, independence, social interaction and life skills as well as academic progress. As the SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will be part of a dedicated team supporting students across key stages, helping them to engage, learn and thrive in a nurturing environment. Your Role as SEN Learning Support Assistant In this role you will: Support students with special educational needs (SEN) throughout the 4‑19 age range, assisting learning in primary, middle and upper years. Work under the guidance of class teachers, the SENCO and other professionals to help deliver personalised support strategies. Provide 1:1 or small‑group support for pupils with ASD, social communication needs and associated learning challenges. Assist in implementing individual targets from the pupil's EHCP and liaise with the teaching team to monitor progress. Help create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes engagement, independence and social skills. Support pupils with communication, interaction, mobility or personal care needs (as appropriate and in accordance with training and risk assessments). Help manage behaviour in a calm and consistent manner, using agreed strategies to support positive learning outcomes. Facilitate students' experiences in community and vocational settings (especially for older pupils) to build readiness for life beyond school. Assist with preparation of resources, adapting materials to meet pupils' needs and supporting transitions between lessons or settings. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, empathy and resilience. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team. Good communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to adapt communication to suit pupils' needs. A proactive approach to supporting learning and behaviour, and to helping children make meaningful progress. Willingness to engage in training and professional development, and to reflect on practice.
