Solidworks / Mechanical Design Engineer

Cooper Lomaz are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a hands-on engineering team working with rotating machinery. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys modifications, detailing, and practical design work, without needing extensive concept-level design experience.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will focus on supporting and improving existing machinery designs, working on modifications, component detailing, and technical documentation. You'll collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and project teams to ensure products are accurate, buildable, and delivered on time
.
This is a practical, shop-floor focused design role for someone who enjoys making things work efficiently and reliably.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare detailed 3D models and component drawings using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar)
* Carry out modifications and detailing of existing machinery designs
* Support manufacturing teams with technical guidance and documentation
* Maintain accurate records of design revisions and updates
* Liaise with internal teams and occasionally with clients to clarify requirements
* Apply mechanical principles to ensure components meet performance and quality standards
* Assist with prototyping, testing, and implementing design improvements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience in engineering
* 3+ years' experience in mechanical design or engineering, preferably with rotating machinery, printing, labelling, or die-cutting equipment
* Strong proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, SolidEdge, or similar)
* Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, material selection, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes
* Experience creating technical drawings and documentation
Desirable Skills
* Knowledge of rotor dynamics, vibration analysis, or balancing techniques (not essential)
* Strong problem-solving skills and practical approach to challenges
* Effective communication skills for cross-team collaboration
* Able to work independently but also enjoy working as part of a hands-on team
