A bit about the role Our Peri-natal service called Blueprints, funded by Scottish Government, is a vital part of our work across the Outer Hebrides. You will be working independently as part of a small team and be supported by the Action for Children staff based in Bayhead. You will be working with expectant parents and their babies, pre-birth through to aged 3. Your role will involve working with children and families affected by parental mental health. We work alongside parents to build their confidence, helping parents through pregnancy, birth and onto infant stages. We support and empower parents and families by giving them emotional support, parental support and help to restore a positive mental and emotional wellbeing. This consists of 1 to 1 support, drop in and group work depending on the families need. You will work with the parents to build up their parenting skills, bonding and attachment, boundary setting, improving wellbeing and welfare including home visits. You will mirror good parenting skills including play, healthy eating, routines and boundaries. These tools will bolster parents' confidence, nurturing and interaction with their child. The tools used give the families positive behaviour strategies, guidance on sleep patterns and healthy sleep, build routines and develop their understanding of child development. You will be trained in an appropriate parenting programme which can then be delivered to the parents. You will support parents in understanding and managing their mental wellbeing struggles, providing a safe place to explore and learn ways of coping with their and their child's emotional needs, How you'll help to create brighter futures Providing a high-quality service to children, young people and their families, based on an assessment of need and is outcomes driven. Delivering specialist interventions with families and their babies on a 1:1 basis or group setting. Providing lead case/care planning management, including undertaking assessing, reviewing, and managing risks. Attending and participating at relevant multi agency meetings, providing a lead role ensuring reflective and analytical practice review. Let's talk about you Our job description for the Children and Families Practitioner outlines the requirements of the role but the ‘must-haves' are: Previous experience working with parents and their young children (minimum of 2 years). Previous experience of delivering family support. Understanding of peri-natal mental health, it causes and supports needed. Minimum of HNC in a related field (we welcome an equivalent relevant degree qualification). Knowledge of working with multi agency partnerships. Full Drivers licence and access to a vehicle to enable the duties of the role to be carried out. Essential training will be provided.
