Why this role is important for CPI’s work
We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and visionary manager to lead our Digital and Automation team. This strategic leadership role will drive the development and implementation of our digital and automation strategy, enabling cutting‑edge solutions that shape the future of biologics. Your work will support the biologics technology team strategy and contribute to the development of innovative therapeutics.
The Role
Key tasks in the Manager – Digital and Automation role include (but are not limited to):
* Providing leadership to the integration of technologies, applications, processes, and equipment into CPI Digital & Automation Assets and capabilities.
* Ownership of Digital and Automation strategy implementation, defining and resourcing the implementation plan, coordinating with other Technology Teams and central areas of expertise.
* Functionally leading, managing, supporting, and actively participating in the work required to deliver project goals on collaborative research & development, commercial and internal projects.
* Supporting or developing plans for the training of technical, operation, and engineering teams to achieve effective use of Digital and Automation Assets and related systems, and expand capabilities over time.
* Undertaking all management activities to ensure the smooth running of the group.
* Leading the integration of control software solutions and automation technologies to support bioprocessing operations, including continuous processing.
The person we are seeking
* Educated to Degree Level (or equivalent) in a relevant Science, Engineering or Data Science discipline with significant experience.
* Expertise in sample, process and data analysis in a CPI‑pursued industry vertical development setting.
* Knowledge of data acquisition, analysis, statistics and data modelling relevant to scientific research.
* Experience with software tools covering areas of simulation for process control, modelling, automation and scheduling.
* Significant technical expertise in the design and development of analytical technologies, advanced control, automation and data collection projects, including data acquisition and equipment integration.
* A PhD or equivalent is advantageous, with working knowledge of simulation tools such as LabVIEW or MATLAB, advanced process control software (e.g., Pharma MV), industrial control software (PCS 7) and control strategy development.
* Knowledge and skills in programming and scripting languages such as Python, C or JavaScript.
* Experience working in regulated environments to standards such as ISO 9001 and GMP applicable to the industry vertical.
* Expertise in functional management and development of collaborative interdisciplinary teams.

Hybrid working would be considered for this role. The position is based in the UK and employment is conditional on demonstrating the right to work. Sponsorship may be available.
