Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Delivery Manager with a strong background as a hands-on engineer (hardware, electronics, or mechatronics) to lead the delivery of complex defence and high-technology programmes. You will serve as the primary interface between engineering teams, stakeholders, Bid Management, and customers, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards—all within a secure, SC-cleared environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programme Leadership: Define and drive project plans, milestones, and budgets for multi-disciplinary engineering teams. Coordinate across hardware, electronics, and mechatronics workstreams to ensure seamless integration and delivery.
2. Stakeholder Management: Serve as the principal point of contact for senior stakeholders, customers, and suppliers. Report progress, risks, and mitigations clearly, leveraging your technical background to translate complex engineering concepts.
3. Team Empowerment & Coaching: Mentor and develop engineering leads, guiding best practices with your hands-on experience. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and technical excellence.
4. Risk & Issue Management: Identify technical, schedule, and resource risks early; implement mitigation strategies.
5. Process & Governance: Establish robust delivery frameworks, tailoring Agile, V-model, or hybrid methodologies as appropriate. Ensure compliance with internal governance, regulatory, and security standards.
6. Technical Advocacy: Use your engineering expertise to challenge designs, optimize system architectures, and advocate for practical, buildable solutions. Occasionally troubleshoot or prototype when needed to maintain credibility.
7. Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance (UK) and sole British.
8. Leadership & Communication: Demonstrate strong people-management skills, inspiring engineers and building high-performing teams. Communicate effectively with C-suite stakeholders and technical teams alike.
9. Methodologies & Tools: Familiarity with Agile/Scrum, V-model, ISO 9001, DO-178C/DO-254 or similar standards. Comfortable with project tools such as JIRA, MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar.
