You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering strategic fire safety solutions across sectors including Cities & Development, Energy, Residential, and Transportation – while mentoring the next generation of engineers and influencing the direction of major UK infrastructure projects.
Your Role & Responsibilities
As a Principal Fire Engineer, you’ll be expected to operate at a strategic level, taking ownership of technical delivery, client relationships, and team development. You’ll be a trusted advisor, a technical authority, and a visible leader across the business.
1. Lead fire engineering design and strategy across high-profile, multi-sector projects
2. Oversee project delivery, ensuring technical excellence,pliance, andmercial viability
3. Act as a key client interface, building long-term relationships and identifying new opportunities.
4. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers
5. Contribute to business development, bid writing, and strategic growth planning
6. Represent the consultancy in industry forums, regulatory discussions, and stakeholder engagements
7. Drive innovation in fire safety design, modelling, and risk mitigation
8. Support the development of internal standards, training programmes, and best practice frameworks
What You’ll Bring
This role demands a confident,mercially aware leader with deep technical expertise and a collaborative mindset.
9. Degree in engineering (preferably fire engineering) or relevant postgraduate qualification
10. Extensive experience in fire engineering across multiple sectors
11. Strong working knowledge of standards including BS9999, NFPA 130, BS9992, EN45545
12. Proven ability to leadplex projects and multidisciplinary teams
13. Experience in fire modelling and risk assessment methodologies
14. Chartered Engineer status or working towards it
15. Excellentmunication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
16. Ability to influence, mentor, and inspire others
17. Willingness to travel and support national project delivery
